
JONATHAN SEGAL
The Creator of Space Vacation
Jonathan Segal is an Emmy-nominated songwriter, author, pianist, singer, entertainer, and music educator.
He has written music for television, including themes and songs for Monday Night Football, Another World, Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures, and One Life to Live, for which he received a Daytime Emmy nomination.
As a performer, Jonathan starred in the national tour of Broadway’s Pump Boys & Dinettes and has accompanied legendary artists including Chuck Berry, Dizzy Gillespie, Rosie O’Donnell, Ben Vereen, Heather Headley, Oscar Brand, Mike Burstyn, and Will Lee, among others.
His work spans live performance, television, and theater. He served as music director for the TV show Afterdrive starring Denis Leary, music-directed the Off-Broadway production Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah, and worked on Broadway teaching the Von Trapp children their songs for The Sound of Music while also performing in the Radio City Music Hall Pit Orchestra.
Jonathan has performed at approximately 1,000 private events for organizations including the Tony Awards, the British Consulate, presidential candidates, NYC mayors, and The Discovery Channel. He has also concertized with The Great American Songbook on the Jazzy Side, performed jazz internationally in Tokyo, and worked extensively in industrial theater for major corporations.
In addition to his performance career, Jonathan has been a Blue Ribbon judge for the Emmy Awards and has been featured in Who’s Who in Entertainment and Who’s Who in Emerging American Leaders. His acting work includes the film Baby It’s You and radio performances with Theodore Bikel.
He is also the author of the novel The Disharmonic Misadventures of David Stein, a comedic jazz mystery, and has released albums spanning jazz and country. Beyond creating Space Vacation, Jonathan has served as a chorus director, music director, and drama director at camps and schools, and continues to teach piano and coach singers.
